Podcasts content tracking
Altmetric tracks mentions of research outputs from the written descriptions of podcast episodes. For a mention to be picked up, it must meet the following conditions:
The podcast source must be already tracked by Altmetric through a valid RSS feed
The episode must be available within the RSS feed of the podcast.
The research output must be mentioned using a DOI or a direct URL to the output within the episode description.
It's important to note that, due to technical limitations, we do not track mentions in the audio content of the podcast or in episode transcripts.
Which podcasts does Altmetric track?
We do not automatically track all available podcasts online. Instead, we track a manually curated collection. These podcasts are sourced from a larger database of over 4 million shows and are selected based on categories that have a high likelihood of mentioning research.
Once a podcast is indexed in our database, our tracking system will receive future mentions of research outputs through its RSS feed.
Podcasts categories
We specifically focus on podcasts from the following categories:

The Podcasts tab on an Altmetric Details Page
On an Altmetric Details Page, the “Podcasts” tab lists the specific podcast episodes that have mentioned the research output. You can see which source posted about the research output and the content of the post.
The contribution to the score works like Blogs: each distinct podcast that mentions the research output contributes a flat score of 5 to the Altmetric Attention Score (multiple mentions from the same podcast do not increase the score beyond 5).
The Podcasts mentions appear as purple in the Altmetric donut.
