The Altmetric Explorer has a powerful search interface, with both basic and advanced search options.

Quick Search

When you login, you'll see "Quick Search" at the top right hand side of the page. Here you can enter a simple search term (such as a keyword, author name, department name, publication title, journal name, research output type, etc.) and dive into your Altmetric data right away.

If you are an Altmetric Explorer for Institutions user, you can also select whether or not to search within your own institution's verified research outputs, or expand your search to the full Altmetric database. You can read more about this functionality here.

The animation below demonstrates how to run a Quick Search.

Advanced Search

Alternatively, you can choose "Edit Search" to open an Advanced Search menu with many other ways to refine your search queries and the drill down into the most relevant research output results.

If you are an Altmetric Explorer for Institutions user, you can also select whether or not to search within your own institution's verified research outputs, or expand your search to the full Altmetric database. You can read more about this functionality here.

You can also enter multiple filters:

The table below explains the various basic and advanced search options.

Search for...
How to do it
(Explorer for Institutions only) Research outputs from your institution by author name or department/group name

Research outputs from full Altmetric database
Search for any research output Altmetric has ever tracked across the full database.
Outputs by type (e.g., article, book, chapter, dataset, new story, or clinical trial study record)
Search or filter your results by research output type, e.g., to view attention data for the books with the most mentions. NOTE: For Explorer for Publishers users, a license to the Altmetric Book Index must be present in order to view books and chapters.
Outputs that were mentioned in a fixed timeframe
Search for research outputs that were mentioned either anytime or within the past day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. Available from the Advanced Search menu only.
Outputs that were published in a fixed timeframe
Search for research outputs that were published in a specific time period.
Affiliations (GRID ID)
Search for an institution name or a GRID ID to return relevant results and their Altmetric data. The results will include any outputs that are affiliated with the relevant institution.
Subject areas (FoR Code)
Search for a keyword or FoR Code to return relevant results and their Altmetric data. The results will include any outputs from the Altmetric database that have been assigned the relevant FoR Code.

Scholarly identifiers
Enter a list of up to 25,000 scholarly identifiers, including DOIs, ISBNs, PubMed IDs, arXiv IDs, URNs, and URLs. However, you can enter a single scholarly identifier into the main search box (one identifier per line) to perform a quicker, targeted search for 1 research output.
DOI Prefix
Search for a DOI prefix so you can see all the outputs from a particular publisher or journal.
Handle Prefix
Search for a Handle prefix so you can see all the outputs from a particular institutional repository.
PubMed Query
Search using the PubMed query (e.g., for author names, affiliations, MeSH terms, etc.) to retrieve results in from PubMed directly.
