The CSV Uploader Tool for Altmetric Explorer for Institutions (EFI) is used to quickly update the data implementation for your organization’s Explorer instance. You will be able to use the CSV Uploader Tool to update the department or group hierarchy, author names, and associated research outputs as often as you wish.

These articles contain instructions for using the tool and links to FAQs for specific questions you may have about uploading data.

For questions not answered here, please contact clientsupport@altmetric.com.

Before you begin

Before you begin, please ensure that you’ve prepared the following two files in Comma-Separated Values (CSV) format:

  1. A departments/groups file - you must upload this each time you perform a new data upload.

  2. A full publications file containing all of the publications you wish to view in your Institutional view of the Explorer. This file should contain columns for each of the following:

    1. Publication identifiers (one column per type of identifier)

    2. Author names in Lastname, Firstname format (with multiple authors separated by semicolon)

    3. Departments/groups as they appear in your departments/groups file, if applicable (with multiple departments separated by semicolon)

Accessing the CSV Uploader Tool

In order to access the CSV Uploader Tool, you must be set as an administrator of your organization’s Altmetric Explorer instance. If you wish to add an individual at your organization as an Altmetric Explorer administrator, please contact clientsupport@altmetric.com and we will update the account to include administrator permissions.

The CSV Uploader Tool can be found in the Administrator’s Panel, which is accessible via the wrench icon on the left-hand sidebar of the Explorer:

Under the header titled “Manage Data Implementation,” the following information is displayed:

  1. The blue UPLOAD DATA button allows you to upload a new CSV spreadsheet.
  2. A summary of your current data implementation, marked as ‘PUBLISHED.’ The summary tells you how many research outputs you uploaded and how many of those were valid.
  3. A summary of your last four previous data implementations. At any time, you can re-publish one of your previous four data sets by hitting the blue ‘Publish’ button on the right side of the corresponding upload.
