When a research output is mentioned in an attention source tracked by Altmetric using a link shortening service, we expand the link in order to reveal the original URL.
We support hundreds of link shortening services, including but not limited to:
bit.ly
t.co
goo.gl
ow.ly
tiny.cc
is.gd
For the full list of supported link shorteners see this page and check out our open source Ruby Library, Embiggen, if you want to find out how it all works under the hood!
Warning About Link Shorteners
While we do support link shorteners, to maintain consistent tracking, we recommend avoiding generic link shorteners when posting on X/Twitter. Instead, use Twitter's default shortener (t.co) or a private/branded shortener.
For Altmetric to track a branded link shortener, please contact Altmetric Support before posting to ensure the shortener is whitelisted in our tracking database.
